For those who are not interested in a city trip, we recommend further excursion destinations such as the Rennsteiggarten Oberhof, the Explorata-Mitmachwelt, a zoo, and much more. Here we have compiled some of the most beautiful sights for you. However, you will find even more tips and recommendations in our hotel.

Wartburg Schloss

Wartburg Eisenach

The world-famous Wartburg, over 900 years old, towers visibly over the city of Eisenach. It is not only a castle but also a witness to German history. The Wartburg tells of courtly art from the Middle Ages. Saint Elisabeth lived and worked there. Martin Luther translated the New Testament there. The room in the castle’s bailiwick – the authentic living and working space of the reformer from May 1521 to March of the following year and for centuries the destination of countless “pilgrims” – can also be regarded as the birthplace of the Luther Bible and our modern language. Ruins of Gleichen Castle

Perched on a conical hill in Wandersleben is the medieval ruin of Gleichen Castle. The complex is mentioned in the annals of Reinhardtsbrunn as early as 1089. In 1631, with the death of the last Count of Gleichen, the slow but steady decline of the castle began, which, with the tale of the “two-wived Count of Gleichen,” has a prominent place in Thuringian legends. From the platform of the keep, which now houses a museum on the history of the castle and the natural area “Drei Gleichen,” you can enjoy a fantastic view over the Thuringian Basin to the ridge of the Thuringian Forest.
